Yea know the groups that come here really have a different was of touching peoples lives here a the Feet. I first got here in January there was a group from Winona, Mississippi and while they were here God had one of these Winona folks talk to one of the homeless guys here and they started to get to know each other and they found out that this guy had not talked to his dad in several years. So one of the Winona guys let this guy use his cell phone to call his dad. Once this homeless guy talked to his dad, they ended up taking him to see his dad in Louisiana where his dad lived to reunite him with his dad.
Another group from Pittsburgh, Kansas and they ended up taking a homeless guy back to Kansas with them. Where he later got a job, got married and having kids, and ended up dying there. About a week ago, we had a group from Tallulah, Oklahoma and they hit the streets here in Ft. Worth witnessing to the homeless community with hot dogs and also doing a kids club for the neighborhood kids. Then another group came in from Kosciusko, Mississippi, Mike's home church, came out here and painted the whole church. They painted the downstairs and the upstairs and hung new banners and new draperies as well. When they got done it looked awesome!!
Then we just had a group in from Peach tree City, Georgia. They were a small group of 5 or 6 families that came and at first some of them were kinda nervous on what they were getting themselves into, but that changed after the first day. I was able to talk with some of them before they headed out. They enjoyed being here and want to come back. They actually realized the first time that the homeless people were actual human beings like you and me who are either living in shelters or out on the street. Not in a comfortable bed with sheets and blankets in a covered house with air conditioning or heat. These are people who live in a cardboard box or not even a cardboard box. Perhaps on the ground with the bugs and dirt. Not to mention whether it is raining outside or super hot or freezing cold outside. Another one of the ladies I talked with she told me that this trip was a definite eye opener for her. Back home she said that she complained about here clothes, what she had to drive, things that she took for granted. Seeing other people less fortunate than her really made her realize that she shouldn't and will try her best not to complain about things because she doesn't have it as bad as some of the people that she saw this week.
I think it is really awesome that God can bring different kinds of people here at the Feet and impact them in different ways. Even the little kids that came with their moms and dads were sharing Christ with the homeless people here at the Feet, in camps and on the street.
