25 Jan- 1 Feb 09

So I'm sitting here trying to think of the highlights of this week were and I would have to say one of them was the cold. It started out nice and sunny on Sunday then got progressively worse through Wednesday The tempts were 50 degrees to 20 degrees. It reminded me of when my family and I were living in Michigan before we moved to Texas. Another one would be I have been observing that there are three different types of homeless people. Group 1- Actually living outside not in shelters and have no means of putting forth the effort of getting their lives back on track and therefore getting involved in drugs, alcohol and prostitution. Having only one to three changes of clothes moving from one place to another only caring about themselves. Group 2- People living in shelters trying to get off of drugs, alcohol and prostitution and trying to put forth the effort of getting a job, getting their family back etc... Then there is Group 3- mentally unstable people. These people are very different than everyone else. Most people don't do much to help these guys out.
There has been so many stories that I have heard from the staff and the people themselves of how God has changed their lives while they have been coming here. I just think it is awesome how God works in these peoples lives and how they go from not caring about anyone but themselves, to God impacting them so much that their lives have been changed that they want to tell everyone what God has done for them.
One thing for sure is everyday here at the Feet is different. Anything could happen, like a fight that broke out this past Sunday between two girls about clothes, or on Wednesday a guy tried to cut in line for dinner and at first he obeyed on waiting for the others to go, but it just went down hill from there. He started yelling, cursing, got physical with us so we asked him to leave. Finally he left. While we were talking with him God showed me that as long as you talk with compassion and love the situation dissolves pretty quickly. Like it says in Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger".
Another highlight would be me being more bold in what I say to them. Like it says in Matthew 5:13-16 God calls us to be salt and light to people meaning we should show and tell about Christ and what He has done for us. I really look forward to Friday nights because that is when we go out and be salt and light. This past Friday we did a dog drop, visited camps and showed the movie Fireproof. I praise God how he brings people every Friday to witness and to be witneessed to.
On Sunday, IT WAS AWESOME!! The message was about pride and humility and how we are supposed to be humble before God and not let pride get in the way of Him. I really felt the Holy Spirit helping me and getting me to be humble before God. This was something I had never actually been before. I could really feel His presence around me. I feel that God was showing me that if we are homeless or have a home, if we have the slightest bit of pride in our lives, God can not do what He wants to do in our lives. We have to try and live a humble life so God can live through us.
